چکیده

Today, detailed, complete and exact 3D models with photo-realistic textures are increasingly demanded for numerous applications in architecture and archaeology. Manual texture mapping of 3D models by digital photographs with software packages, such as Maxon Cinema 4D, Autodesk 3Ds Max or Maya, still requires a complex and time-consuming workflow. So, procedures for automatic texture mapping of 3D models are in demand. In this paper two automatic procedures are presented. The first procedure generates 3D surface models with textures by web services, while the second procedure textures already existing 3D models with the software tmapper. The program tmapper is based on the Multi Layer 3D image (ML3DImage) algorithm and developed in the programming language C++. The studies showing that the visibility analysis using the ML3DImage algorithm is not sufficient to obtain acceptable results of automatic texture mapping. To overcome the visibility problem the Point Cloud Painter algorithm in combination with the Z-buffer-procedure will be applied in the future.

Multi-image Matching

In close-range architectural and archaeological photogrammetric applications, very often, amateur cameras are used. While images are suffering from excessive distortions, the objects themselves exhibit remarkable anaglyph (walls, excavation holes, 3D objects, etc.), prohibiting thus the use of simple planar rectification. The 3D reconstruction of such objects unavoidably requires the production...

An Integrated Spatial Information System for the Development of the Archaeological Site of Mycenae

Digital and automated photogrammetric methods and procedures developed for the collection and management of spatial data have been well introduced on archaeological applications. The use of terrestrial laser scanning systems provides new capabilities for 3D visualization of the present situation of a site. Recently, special tools in Spatial Information Systems (SIS) and management systems of vi...

Realistic Visualization of Archaeological Sites: the Need for Texture

In building 3D site models for visualization and virtual walkthrough, most emphasis so far has been on creating the 3D shape models. Less emphasis has been on creating realistic textures, e.g. to simulate building materials or vegetation. Nevertheless, the appearance of object and landscape models will depend at least as much on their textures, as on the precision of their geometry. The paper p...

A Concept for Assignment of Textures to Partially Occluded Faces of 3d City Models Stored in Citygml

Automatic texture mapping is an important task in enrichment of the common 3D city models. A significant part of all algorithms for automated texture mapping is the visibility checking. Nowadays most algorithms for texture extraction use visibility check based on z-buffer or polygon intersection in the image plane. Thus, the visibility of particular face is calculated for every frame independen...

Texture Tiling on 3D Models Using Automatic Polycube-maps and Wang Tiles

In mapping textures onto 3D models, it is essential to eliminate all seams and avoid excessive distortions. To achieve these goals, texture tiling provides an alternative approach for texturing surfaces. In this paper, a texture tiling approach that combines polycube-maps and Wang tiles for 3D models is proposed. The polycube of a 3D model is first constructed automatically and a tiling mechani...
